It was a great way to spend this bright sunny Sunday morning with all of you in our very first Balavihar Class of the year!! We hope that you all had as much fun as the Aunties :-) We had lots of fun and as separation anxieties melted down for the little ones they enjoyed the day and were loud and cheerful.
We'd like to take this opportunity to quickly recap some of the main points we discussed regarding your child's learning throughout the year. We look forward to having many conversations with you over the next few months...
The goal of the curriculum this year is to teach your children :
- Simple values and discipline through the english alphabet
- The fun of living these values and discipline
- Chinmaya mission pledge and their meaning, message and values
- Prayer in the form of bhajans and shlokas
- Bhagawat Geeta Chapter 14.
The parents moved to the auditorium after they passed their contact information and got the children settled. We started the day with 3 Om's followed by our opening prayer.
Om Sahanavavatu
Then we had our shell game and saw how kids got excited and participated with lots of enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see how much they calmed down and concentrated. Then Ruchi aunty started her fun yoga streches which both relaxed the mind and body and ensured kids followed simple instructions. They were jumping, stretching and performing yoga in a fun way. Then Reshma aunty engrossed the kids with the story of Ganesha who circles his parents and wins the divine fruit proving he is smarter of the two children. The kids listened well and answered Reshma aunties questions.
After this we had the kids doing likhita japa of the word Ram( राम ) in Sanskrit. Some kids did it by tracing and some others did in dry erase boards with markers. The kids who were part of Pre-K programme last year were comfortable writing on their own. All the kids would however be writing on their own after a few classes as we try to do more likhita japa as it increases concentration skills with kids.
We concluded the class with closing prayers
Om Purnamidah Purnamidam.
followed by arati and pledge at the auditorium
We hope all the kids had lots of fun and we will see you again next Sunday morning at 10.00.
