Comments:

After our prayers, we reviewed all the alphabets learned so far in the class.
The letter for the day was K for Kindness. We brainstormed about what Kindness was(being gentle, generous and good natured), how to be kind(through our actions, by being ready to help at all times) and what happens when we are kind and helpful( God will take care of our needs).

We did an activity, where we read out an incident and the kids had to decide if it was a kind act or unkind act. For this we made 2 placards, one with a Smiley face and the other with Sad face.
For every kind act they showed the smiley face, and sad face for an unkind act.

We told them the story of the Androcles and the lion and how kindness repays.

After our story time, we played our coin concentration game. After this we practiced our Gitaa chanting. We asked the kids(2) at each table to chant the first shloka by themselves. Some of them did not want to chant by themselves, some of them were reluctant initially, but chanted later on when they heard the kids who could chant by themselves.
We will ask them to chant the second shloka in the next class.
Parents, please make them practice the second shloka, for the next class.

REMINDERS:
Please practice the shlokas and Geeta at home with the children.
Please take the children to the restroom before the class.
Please do not send in any bags or folders with them.
If you have any spare art supplies, like markers, gel pens, glue sticks, clay etc please donate them to the class.

(SECTION 2)
Comments:

After initial prayers, we had fun doing the 3 Bhajans. Many kids volunteered to come up and lead. After that, we reviewed the Gita Shlokas learnt so far. We were very happy that nearly 15 children came up in 2 groups to chant the first 3 shlokas. One of them has in fact memorized upto the 7th! Way to go, Shyam. Keep it up. Hope the parents can help every kid learn at home or bring them to the Ashram on Friday evenings for extra classes if possible. The audio is available on the website given at the top of this page. In class, we reviewed the 4th shloka a few times.

We then reviewed all the alphabets we have learned so far. We were happy to see them remember not just what the alphabet stood for but what it meant too. We then moved to our next letter 'K' for Kindness. We discussed what kindness was. We had an activity where we would read out an incident and the children had to decide whether it was a kind act or an unkind act and hold up a Smiley face/Sad face accordingly. We then heard about the times when they were kind and also sometimes when they had not been. We have asked them to observe at least 3 kind acts and unkind acts this week and share them in class next week. We told them the story of the Androcles and the lion and how kindness repays.

The children then finished coloring the Rangoli pattern they had made last week. They got to take it home this week. Have a great week and we will see you next Sunday.

REMINDERS:
Please practice the shlokas and Geeta at home with the children.
Please take the children to the restroom before the class.
Please do not send in any bags or folders with them.
If you have any spare art supplies, like markers, gel pens, glue sticks, clay etc please donate them to the class.

It was nice to see many kids come back with the signed sheets. A lot of prize box items were given out for those who came up and recited. Hopefully, this will motivate them and the others too to memorize all the 8 shlokas. We worked a lot on the 7th and 8th shlokas in class. Parents, please continue to practice with them at home. We would like all our children to participate in the Geeta Chanting Competition.

Story Time and Letter(s) of the day: 'W'
Moving on in our Alphabet Safari, we arrive at the letter 'W', that stands for Work.

We quickly reviewed all the alphabets that we have done so far. We again tied up the letter of the day to the letter 'A' for aspiration. If I want to achieve my aspiration, it is not enough I sit and daydream about it. I have to work for it. We drove home the point with a couple of stories, including the ant and grasshopper story, and one of a poor man who finds a big pot of milk and instead of making something useful out of it, sits and daydreams and in the end breaks the pot accidentally.

Activity:

We started doing a Rangoli for Rama Navami. But it took much longer than anticipated and we are only halfway through. We will finish it next week.

Closing Prayers
Asathoma
Purnamadah...
