(SECTION 1)
Comments:
We wish you all a very Happy New Year.
After saying the beginning prayers, we started a new Shloka for Lord Hanuman today - Manojavam. We practiced our shlokas for Lord Ganesha and Krishna too.
Since the new shloka was for Lord Hanuman, we discussed about his qualities, which led us to the topic of the day I for INTELLIGENCE.
We brainstormed about how we are different from animals.
Now they know what intelligence is, why we need it and how they can become more intelligent.
Story time was about the all famous story of the CELESTIAL FRUIT and how Ganesha got it with his intelligence. Most of the kids in the class knew this story.
As usual we played our coin game for the quiet time.
Once they were quiet and calm, we did our Gitaa chanting. We revised the first 4 shlokas with them.
Arati and Pledge was in the auditorium. There was a presentation about the SANKRANTI festival by 3rd graders.
On the days we have Arati and Pledge in the auditorium, we request you to stay back with your children till the pledge is done. The learning happens in the auditorium too.
We wish you all a HAPPY PONGAL AND MAKARA SANKANTI.Since the new shloka was for Lord Hanuman, we discussed about his qualities, which led us to the topic of the day I for INTELLIGENCE.

(SECTION 2)
Comments:
A very Happy New Year to all of you. After saying the beginning prayers, we started a new Shloka for Hanuman today - Manojavam. Vijay had brought a beautiful Hanuman doll he had got as a gift and shared it with the class.
After that, we had some enthusiastic children come up and lead us for the Bhajans. We revised the first three shlokas of the Bhagavad Geeta as thoroughly as we could and tried to help the few kids who still had trouble with the first shloka. Shubangi aunty had brought 'space' stickers for all the kids today!
After remembering the 'Happy Train' from last time, we moved onto our next stop in the safari -'I' for intelligence. We discussed what intelligence was and why we need it. Then we told them the story of Hanuman crossing the ocean and how he used his intelligence to overcome the obstacles in the form of the sea monsters Surasa and Simhika.
They did some coloring and then we tried to challenge them by teaching them how to make a rangoli (kolam) pattern. But since we did not have a lot of time, many of them could not finish it. We will do it again in the next class and decorate it.
Happy Pongal and Happy Makara Sankaranthi! We will meet again after 2 weeks on Jan 22nd. Until then, please help them practice their shlokas and Geeta.
