Today we had a great start however we missed many of our friends who did not attend. Children are getting better at slokas and Gita. They need to practice at home to. We learnt the meaning of the Sloka Sahanavavathu. Today our Alphabet Safari was letter 'C' is for Cleanliness. We learnt and discussed why and how we need to keep our surroundings, our mind and ourselves clean. We then showed them three glasses with water. One glass was dirty on the outside, while the other glass had water mixed with paint. Children did not want to drink water from either glass. Third glass had clean water and everyone agreed they could drink that water. We all learnt how cleanliness has to be from inside and outside. We also listened to the story of the Kings horse that refused to enter dirty water.
We discussed how Navratri was being celebrated at home. Some children also said they had Kolu at home, while other’s said they saw it at their friend’s place. We listened to the story of Mahisasura and how Goddess Shakthi put an end to him. We prepared craft with Durga Maa face. Children added their own ideas to the craft, which made each one so special. We thank our parent volunteer, Bharathi (Ashwini's mom) for being so helpful.
Today one child wanted to go out to drink water and 5 or 6 of them followed. Please send in water bottles and see that they go to the rest rooms. This will save a lot of our time.Section 2
Today balavihar was in a festive mood and all our little friends with cheerful faces made it a wonderful day for all of us. To continue in the festive spirit we chanted Ayigiri nandini which our little friends took a lead. Milan and Shravanti chanted the shloka very well and all the friends repeated after them. We continued with the Navratri spirit by tracing and coloring ma durga card. Each one of the cards were decorated by the kids with their addition of crown, jwellery and making the goddess more beautiful with their own imagination.
We followed this with a quick recap of A for aspiration and B for brotherhood and what they meant before we proceeded to letter C. The kids as usual started saying C is for cookie, cake, carrot to "Cleanliness". Then we talked about the story of a kings horse who refused to enter dirty lake. Then we talked about how important it was to keep both our body and mind clean. We also spoke about how to make our mind clean is with clean habits and actions. We ended the day with closing prayers and we had our CORD team member talk to the parents about how to register for the walkathon next week at mercer county park.
